About The Position

Responsible for the safe and orderly transportation of students on assigned bus route. Operate a school bus that transports students and other authorized personnel to and from school or designated location.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid Texas commercial driver’s license (class B) with school bus and passenger endorsement
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Ability to pass alcohol and drug test
  • Ability to complete required bus driver safety training
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Knowledge of student discipline procedure
  • Ability to manage student behavior
  • Ability to operate bus
  • Acceptable driving record according to Texas Education Agency standards

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a certified school bus driver preferred

Responsibilities

  • Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses.
  • Maintain safety precautions when students are boarding and departing bus.
  • Maintain discipline on school buses and report student discipline problems to appropriate administrator.
  • Follow assigned route and adhere to established schedules.
  • Check bus for mechanical defects before and after operation and prepare work orders for needed repairs.
  • Perform thorough bus maintenance inspection and complete related paperwork as scheduled by department.
  • Communicate with school personnel and parents about student behavior while on the bus.
  • Keep assigned bus clean and fueled.
  • Operate two-way radio equipment with transportation office.
  • Follow proper procedures for reporting all accidents, vehicle damage, and student injuries, and complete required reports.
  • Drive bus for extracurricular activities as needed.
  • Regular attendance; must be willing and able to report to work at the designated work site on a regular daily basis according to established work schedule.
  • Ensure proper condition of emergency equipment; such as first aid kit, fire extinguisher, flags, fuses, crow bar, and reflector
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area that could cause an accident and inform supervisor of any conditions that are not correctable immediately.
  • Attend and complete required training program to maintain safety certification.
  • Serve as role model for students.
  • Follow district policy concerning uniforms.
  • Comply with all state, district, and departmental regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Complete all staff development/training requirements.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
