About The Position

Ensure safe and orderly transportation of students on assigned route. Operate a school bus that transports students and other authorized personnel to and from school or other designated locations in a timely and safe manner. Provide minor campus maintenance and facility support services as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Valid Texas commercial driver’s license (Class B), with School Bus Passenger Endorsement
  • Certified by the Texas Department of Public Safety; School Bus Driver Certification
  • Clean record of alcohol and drug use
  • Acceptable driving record as verified by the Texas Department of Public Safety annually
  • Complete required bus driver safety training
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Demonstrate effective communicate skills
  • Knowledge of student discipline procedures
  • Manage student behavior that fosters safe bus operation
  • Ability to operate a bus safely and model safe bus driving practices

Responsibilities

  • Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned
  • Perform special projects, during and after normal business hours, and other duties as assigned
  • Complies with Federal and State Laws and local policies/procedures
  • Responds positively to supervision, suggestions and/or directives.
  • Uses evaluative feedback for improvement of performance
  • Participates actively in personal and /or professional growth and development
  • Follow assigned route and adhere to established schedules
  • Drive to and from extracurricular activities, as assigned
  • Check bus for mechanical defects before and after each operation and notify supervisor of needed repairs
  • Ensure buses are clean and fueled
  • Assist with maintenance when necessary
  • Report all accidents, vehicle damage, student injuries, and mechanical failure.
  • Complete required reports
  • Keep record of bus mileage, gas and oil consumption, and number of passengers transported
  • Supervise students while they board and leave the bus and cross the street
  • Communicate with teachers and school administration as needed regarding student behavior while on bus
  • Maintain discipline; report student discipline problems to appropriate administrator
  • Instruct students on safe riding rules and regulations
  • Exhibits a positive attitude and serves as a positive role model for students and the community
  • Works cooperatively and effectively with others
  • Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses.
  • Inspect bus by checking fuel, oil, water, tires, lights, brakes, and steering to ensure bus can be operated safely before driving
  • Ensure proper condition of emergency equipment, such as first aid kit, fire extinguisher, flags, fuses, crow bar, and reflector
  • Operate two-way radio equipment and cellular phone to communicate with campus
  • Adhere to and enforce policies and procedures in the Heritage Academy Employee and Parent & Student Handbook
  • Attend and complete required training program to maintain safety certification status
  • Work irregular hours as needed
