About The Position

The Bus Driver operates a school bus in the scheduled transportation of persons at points of embarkation and disembarkation. The driver supervises and responds to riders' needs during the bus ride, observes riders' behaviors and environmental situations to detect conditions that threaten riders' safety, and maintains safety by driving within the laws and regulations of Ohio licensing, state laws, and the Ohio Pupil Transportation operation and safety rules. The driver also operates and rides hydraulic lifts, secures riders' wheelchairs and other adaptive equipment, and assists in the boarding and departure of persons at points of embarkation and disembarkation. Daily vehicle pre-trip and post-trip inspections are required, along with reporting all defects to the garage for repairs. The driver participates in annual staff development programs and communicates concerns and problems to parents and staff. Additional responsibilities include assisting with riders during non-route times, maintaining attendance sheets, and performing cleaning and custodial duties as necessary.

Requirements

  • Valid Ohio driver's license.
  • Ability to operate a school bus safely.
  • Knowledge of Ohio Pupil Transportation Laws and Regulations.
  • Ability to assist riders with disabilities.
  • Strong communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • First aid and CPR certification.

Responsibilities

  • Operates a school bus in the scheduled transportation of persons.
  • Supervises and responds to riders' needs during the bus ride.

  • Maintains safety by driving within Ohio laws and regulations.
  • Operates and rides hydraulic lift and secures riders' wheelchairs and adaptive equipment.
  • Assists in the boarding and departure of persons.
  • Turns in student/client absentee reports and maintains attendance sheets.
  • Performs daily vehicle pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
  • Reports all defects to garage for repairs.
  • Participates in annual staff development programs.
  • Communicates concerns and problems to parents and staff.
  • Assists with riders during non-route times, such as field trips.
  • Assumes responsibility for riders' possessions during route times.
  • Performs cleaning, disinfecting, and custodial duties as necessary.
  • Completes alternative/additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
