About The Position

As a Bus Driver Trainer, you will act as a liaison between drivers and the Airport Transit Operations Supervisors and Manager. You will train, lead, guide, and monitor drivers to ensure that departmental policies and procedures are followed. You will assist supervisors in the field during high volume passenger situations including monitoring passenger flow and busing needs, timing and spacing of the buses, and wait times and loading procedures. You will monitor safety of the drivers and passengers and ensure drivers park close to the curb for safe entry and egress from the bus, proper lifting techniques by driver to prevent injury, proper security of the buses, and use of seat belts. You will develop curriculum for in-service, new procedures and equipment and make sure the information is beneficial, reinforces good habits and correct and guide performance of proper procedures. You will also incorporate learning styles with oral, visual and in-person reinforcement of information. You will use multiple training and software platforms to present material: lecture, discussion, practice, Power Point, Excel, Publisher and Word. You will perform Ride Checks with all drivers at least twice a year and documents each check and reports to the supervisor driver knowledge and skills in the efficient and safe operation of transit buses. You will promote safe driving skills for smooth driving, which is comfortable and safe for the passengers, ensures sufficient space around the vehicle, suggests proper ergonomic adjustments to lessen the chance of injury while seated and lifting luggage, and reinforces good customer service techniques. You will update databases for credential notification, performance data, and training information on the Safety and Training SharePoint site. You will also assist in databases for safety recognition awards and certificates. You will conduct classroom and behind the wheel instruction for new drivers, seasonal drivers, yearly in-service for current drivers, incident reviews, retrain deficiencies found in check rides, retraining after bus incidents, and instruction on new equipment. You will ensure driver awareness and changes of policy, rules, and regulations. You will record bus assignments and perform radio dispatching during shift change and as requested by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of commercial driver license experience
  • Two (2) years of experience providing training
  • Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with a passenger endorsement
  • Valid Department of Transportation (DOT) medical certification

  • Candidate may be disqualified for a conviction or citation of any of the following during the past 5 years: More than two (2) moving violations and/or at-fault accidents of any kind Speeding over 15mph above the speed limit Reckless driving Negligent driving Driving while under the influence of alcohol or other drugs License suspended / revoked / cancelled / restricted Hit and run Vehicular homicide Vehicular assault Eluding law enforcement Leaving the scene of an accident
  • Will be required to participate in the Port of Seattle Drug and Alcohol Program as required by the Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration.
  • Experience providing excellent customer service and problem resolution.
  • Aware of the complex working environment that require you to adapt to frequent changes in priorities and responsibilities.
  • Capable of effectively delivering information both formally and informally at all levels of the organization using both verbal and written formats.
  • Work with diverse staff, at various levels of the organization, to resolve problems while providing excellent guidance and customer service.
