About The Position

The Bus Driver (Part-Time) position at Pleasantville Public Schools involves transporting students safely and efficiently while performing all activities related to the operation of the school bus. The role requires adherence to safety regulations, effective communication with students and staff, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The position is limited to 31 hours per week and is evaluated annually based on performance.

Requirements

• Hold and maintain a Valid Commercial Driver's License.
• Have a minimum of three years of previous safe driving experience.
• Exhibit strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrate good moral character and integrity.
• Provide proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
• Pass the state-required Mantoux Intradermal Tuberculin Test.
• Current residency in New Jersey or agree to obtain residency within one year of employment.

Nice To Haves

• Sufficient mechanical aptitude to diagnose minor problems and make appropriate repairs.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Drive school buses and transport students between pickup points and school or to various events, activities, and destinations.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections of the bus and complete the School Bus Condition Report.
• Check, clean, and perform minor servicing of buses.
• Participate in emergency evacuation drills and instruct passengers regarding safety regulations.
• Maintain passenger discipline to ensure safety and well-being.
• Report unmanageable students to the district transportation supervisor.
• Prepare simple reports and keep logs of trips.
• Adhere to established routes and keep to assigned time schedules.
• Notify the Transportation Manager of any mechanical malfunctions or safety hazards.
• Obey all traffic laws and observe mandatory school bus safety regulations.
