About The Position

The position involves safely driving a bus, car, or van to transport students to and from home, on field trips, and to health care or other facilities as needed. The driver is responsible for delivering students to their destination in a safe and timely manner while following established routes. It is essential to obey all traffic signals and highway regulations that govern the operation of school buses. The driver must report any mechanical problems immediately to the appropriate personnel. Additionally, the driver assists in the behavior management of students, ensures that behavior reports are completed when necessary, and makes sure that students are picked up by an authorized party. The driver must supervise students at all times, report any student problems or accomplishments to parents, and assist in ensuring that all luggage is properly delivered.

Requirements

  • Current and valid CDL, School Bus Certificate, and DOT Physical.
  • Acceptable 10 year driving history under State Fleet Management (SFM) and SC Department of Education-Transportation (SCDOE-T) guidelines and policies.
  • Experience in the operation or maintenance of motorized vehicles.
  • Must maintain a valid S.C. Commercial Driver License (CDL) with proper endorsements for school bus operation and current D.O.T. Health Card.
  • Must maintain a good driving record with no more than 4 current points for violations.
  • Required to successfully complete Defensive Driving Course (DDC) to comply with State Fleet Management regulations for driving a state vehicle.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with clients who are deaf, blind, and multi-sensory disabled.

Nice To Haves

  • Overnight travel as well as weekend work may be required depending on bus route assignments.
  • Communication modalities may be required depending on employment placement.
