Escalon Unified School District spans approximately 161 square miles and is located in southern San Joaquin County along the northern back of the Stanislaus River. JOB SUMMARY Under general supervision of the Superintendent or designee, operates a school bus over designated routes for the purpose of transporting students of Escalon Unified School District; performs related work as required.

  • Work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations
  • Stand, sit and walk for extended periods of time
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • One (1) year of general driving experience or six (6) months experience as a bus driver
  • First Aid Certificate required
  • Possession of a valid School Bus Driver's Certificate issued through examination by the California Highway Patrol. In order to obtain the Certificate, a candidate must first possess an appropriate California operator's license (Class 2), have passed a physical examination, been fingerprinted, and have fulfilled all other requirements, including a first aid and actual driving test, administered by the California Highway Patrol.
  • Ability to pass DOJ and FBI fingerprint clearance
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical
  • Ability to pass pre and post-employment drug screening tests
  • Ability to pass the required first aid course
  • Valid California Driver's License and DMV clearance are required
  • Safe Driving Record
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a bus certification

Responsibilities

  • Drive a school bus daily over designated routes in accordance with assigned time schedules
  • Escorts children across streets or roadways, stopping traffic as necessary
  • Transports students and teachers on field trips to various locations making departure and arrival times as scheduled
  • Service buses with gasoline, diesel fuel and oil
  • Check vehicles daily to maintain safe operating condition
  • Cleans windshields and headlights
  • Keep vehicles clean and neat
  • Advises on repairs needed
  • Attend scheduled meetings and safety programs
  • Maintain good order among students on the buses and encourages same while students are waiting at the bus stops, following District policies regarding disciplining of children and contact with parents and others
  • Report incidents which affect the safety of pupils; may make minor repairs to vehicles or performs, as directed
  • Other duties consistent with the general areas of responsibility surrounding the job description
