About The Position

A Bus Attendant shares responsibility with the driver for the care and safety of students being transported by bus to and from school. All employees of SISD are expected to act with integrity, support organizational goals, communicate in a clear and respectful manner, championing the needs of our students and drive continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Minimum 18 years of age
• Clearance on Criminal History Check
• Demonstrates an interest in and liking for children and young adults.
• Capable of assessing situations in emergencies quickly and reacting with necessary measures for the protection and well-being of special needs children.
• A Special Needs bus attendant will be physically capable of performing duties associated with special needs students such as lifting, kneeling and extended reach.

Responsibilities

• Loading and unloading students
• Evacuating students in emergency situations
• Providing emergency assistance to special students as needed
• Assisting driver in daily interior bus inspection
• Maintaining and updating student records
• Documenting and reporting inappropriate or unacceptable behavior
• Maintaining discipline in a positive manner
• Recognizing evidence of abuse and neglect
• Assisting the driver in keeping interior of bus clean
• Maintaining accurate time checks and student counts as required
• Assisting the auxiliary driver with route directions and student management
• Performing other related duties as assigned.
