About The Position

The Bus Aide supports the safe and orderly transportation of students to and from school and school-sponsored activities. This position assists the bus driver in maintaining safety, supervising students, and ensuring compliance with all district and state transportation regulations. The Bus Aide serves as a caring and professional representative of the district, promoting student well-being and positive behavior on the bus.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required.
Must pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in stressful situations.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with children, including those with disabilities.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and district transportation procedures.
Physical ability to assist students with mobility challenges and to perform bus evacuation procedures.

Responsibilities

Assist the bus driver in the safe loading and unloading of students, including those with special needs, wheelchairs, or specialized equipment.
Ensure all students are seated and safely secured (seatbelts, harnesses, wheelchairs, etc.) before the bus is in motion.
Support student behavior expectations consistent with district policies; use calm, positive, and respectful communication at all times.
Monitor student conduct to prevent distractions or unsafe actions.
Communicate with the bus driver regarding student behavior, safety concerns, or incidents that occur during routes.
Provide assistance during emergencies, drills, or evacuations.
Maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
Assist in maintaining cleanliness and orderliness of the bus interior.
Report any safety or maintenance concerns to the bus driver or Director of Maintenance & Transportation.
Attend required safety, CPR/first aid, and restraint training sessions as assigned.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
