About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Director of Facilities, to ensure the safe transportation of students, staff, and others to and from school, residential neighborhoods, and field trips.

Requirements

• Ability to read, write and to perform assigned duties.
• Minimum experience as determined by the board.
• Knowledge of bus passenger safety and effective discipline procedures.
• Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
• Current residency in New Jersey, approved residency waiver or candidate agrees to obtain residency within one year of employment.
• High School Diploma or GED.

Nice To Haves

• Bilingual ability (English/Spanish) a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assists the bus driver in maintaining student conduct on the bus.
• Assists young or disabled students in getting on and off the bus.
• Assists the driver in observing the movements of passengers to be sure that none wander into the path of the vehicle.
• Provides written records of violations of student conduct code to the building principal.
• Collects personal items left on the bus and delivers them to the school secretary.
• Provides instruction to students regarding passenger safety and ensures that students wear their seat belts when the bus is so equipped.
• Participates in scheduled emergency bus exit drills.
• Checks to be sure that all student-passengers are dropped off at their correct location and that no passengers remain on the bus at the end of the bus route.
• Performs other related tasks as assigned.
