Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: Drive trucks, following established routes, through residential streets, alleys, business and/or industrial areas. Pick-up and move bulk garbage, various residential and commercial debris transporting to trash facility. Sort collected items for recycling and place them into designated truck compartments. Operate automated or semi-automated hoisting devices that raise refuse bins and dump contents into openings in truck bodies. Communicate to supervisors and/or dispatchers concerning delays, unsafe sites, accidents, equipment breakdowns, or other issues that impact route. Inspect trucks prior to beginning routes to ensure safe operating condition. Fill out reports for defective equipment. Operate equipment that compresses collected refuse. Dump refuse or recyclable material at disposal sites. Dismount/remount assigned vehicle at assigned collections points. Refuel trucks or add other fluids, such as oil or brake fluid. Gauge road and weather conditions to determine how assigned routes will be affected. Clean assigned vehicles or compactor bodies after rounds have been completed. Special pick-ups of varied recyclable materials, such as food scraps, used oil, discarded computers, or other electronic items. Perform other duties as required or assigned.
