About The Position

The Buildings & Grounds Day Supervisor supervises a crew of maintenance workers and grounds crew, and is responsible for assigning work orders, troubleshooting custodial and maintenance issues, assisting in and ensuring the timely and satisfactory completion of work orders, and assisting in the evaluation of staff.

  • Experience in computer equipment related to the position.
  • A firm understanding of OSHA and other regulatory guidelines.
  • Experience in operating machinery, lifts and equipment.
  • Minimum of (2) years of post-secondary education and/or equivalent related field experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the selection, dismissal, assessment, scheduling, and training of all maintenance workers and grounds crew.
  • Review work orders, determine priorities, and assign work orders to staff. Provide in-field evaluation and assistance for the completion of work orders. Ensure work orders are completed on time and in a satisfactory manner. Provide regular status updates on work orders to the Assistant Director of Facilities.
  • Oversee the day-to-day activities of maintenance workers and grounds crew, coordinate work schedules including arrival, dismissal, breaks, and lunch, and coordinate coverage schedules with the Building and Grounds Night Supervisor as required.
  • Assist in the evaluation of maintenance workers, and grounds crew.
  • Aid in the procurement of services, equipment and supplies. Maintain records and inventory of all materials and equipment utilized by the department. Ensure materials and equipment are stored in proper locations and under suitable conditions.
  • Maintain inventory of materials and equipment.
  • Respond to alarms or emergencies on a 24-hour basis.
  • Plow snow as needed and serve as an advisor on road conditions district-wide.
  • Prepare preventive maintenance reports and cost estimates.
  • Provide guidance and training for staff in proper work procedures and implements applicable policies and regulations.
  • Communicate policy and procedural changes to staff.
  • Supervise the maintenance and repair of the district swimming pool.
  • Ensure the district backflow prevention program is in compliance with the appropriate Town or Village.
  • Oversee the correct use, handling, and application of various types of fertilizers and chemicals.
  • Prepare work reports concerning types of repairs made, materials used, and cost of completed work assignments; purchased parts, tools, and supplies.
  • Confer with District personnel regarding grounds, custodial, and maintenance needs for special events district-wide; adjust staff schedules and respond to special requests.
  • Keep abreast of changes in technology related to this position and learn new procedures when appropriate.
  • Ensure all District emergency generators are maintained.
  • Provide prompt and courteous service when information or assistance is requested.
  • Assist all members of the Building and Grounds Department when needed.
  • Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
