Join Siemens' innovative Building X Energy & Sustainability team as a Summer Intern and contribute to cutting-edge Building X applications that are transforming how buildings manage energy consumption and environmental impact. You'll work in a collaborative, small team environment developing tools and extensions that help customers reduce energy consumption and emissions while maintaining optimal building comfort. Our Building X product family encompasses advanced energy management systems, sustainability tracking applications, and AI-powered software solutions that are at the forefront of smart building technology and environmental stewardship.

  • Developing and enhancing tools and extensions for Building X applications within our energy management and sustainability platform
  • Collaborating closely with a small, agile development team on real-world projects that impact customer operations
  • Designing and implementing cloud-based solutions using AWS infrastructure and services
  • Contributing to AI-based software features that optimize building energy consumption and emissions reduction
  • Participating in the full software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering to deployment
  • Working with modern development practices including version control, testing, and continuous integration
  • Supporting sustainability tracking and reporting functionalities that help customers meet their environmental goals
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science or related technical field. Candidates must not graduate prior to September 2026.
  • AWS cloud application development experience with hands-on knowledge of core services.
  • Strong programming foundation with demonstrated experience in software development projects.
  • Understanding of cloud computing concepts, distributed systems, and modern software architecture.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship.
  • Candidates must be available to work 40 hours per week for the duration of the 10-week internship.
  • Eligible candidates must be located within 50 miles of Chicago, IL or Buffalo Grove, IL as this role does not provide housing or relocation support.
  • Python programming experience for backend development and data processing
  • Golang knowledge for high-performance, scalable applications
  • C#/.NET experience for enterprise application development
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience with databases (SQL and NoSQL)
  • Knowledge of RESTful APIs and microservices architecture
  • Understanding of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
  • Interest in sustainability, energy management, or environmental technology
  • Experience with AI/ML frameworks and data analytics
  • Knowledge of building automation systems or IoT technologies
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies

  • Hourly pay range for this position is $24.00 - $28.00 per hour, based off of your projected graduation year. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
