Requirements

• Education equivalent to high school graduation and two years wage earning experience beyond the completed apprenticeship period in the specified parenthetical; or
• If there is no approved apprenticeship period for the specified parenthetical, education equivalent to high school graduation and three years of wage earning experience in the specified parenthetical.
• Possession of or eligibility for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Certificate I or II for the specified parenthetical; or
• Possession of or eligibility for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Intern Certificate for the specified parenthetical; or
• Eligibility for a Pennsylvania Department of Education Emergency Certificate for the specified parenthetical.
• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA.
• Must meet the PA residency requirement.
• Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and determine inmate potential for consideration and placement within the program's curriculum.
• Adapt curriculum materials to meet the specific needs of each student.
• Employ a variety of teaching methods and strategies to present the content at an appropriate instructional level.
• Provide both classroom and hands-on instruction in a wide array of custodial maintenance trades subjects and skillsets relevant to maintenance, electrical, and warehousing.
• Update and maintain inmate education records.
• Track student attendance.
• Manage inventory and payroll.
• Monitor inmate behavior and establish classroom rules.
• Create an environment that fosters effective learning.
