About The Position

WSP USA hosts hundreds of internships across the United States to gain hands-on, meaningful work experience to enhance their education and professional aptitude. Our interns gain exposure to real projects while working side by side with senior staff. Through our Developing Professionals Network, interns gain mentorship, networking opportunities and lifelong career connections. Our Buildings Team is seeking a part-time Building Technology Systems Intern – Summer 2026 to work out of our Boston, MA office. This temporary position is seeking individuals currently enrolled in an Undergraduate or Graduate degree program. This internship will be part of the WSP Summer Internship Program. As a summer intern, you have the opportunity to participate in our 12-week program scheduled to start on May 18th, 2026. The individual start date of the internship may be flexible.

Requirements

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Building Technology Systems, Electronics Engineering, Network Engineering, Network Architecture, Drafting or related, Undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2026 or later.
  • Must be 18 or older.
  • Demonstrated interest in Building Technology Systems or related field and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
  • Familiarity with process and concepts for smart building design and technology.
  • Familiarity with relevant installation and/or construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience.
  • Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (i.e., Revit, AutoCAD, CAM).
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.

Nice To Haves

  • Design experience related to audiovisual, electronic security or structured cabling.
  • Experience with Revit.
  • Prior internship experience in related fields.

Responsibilities

  • Under general supervision, assist with creating and updating AutoCAD / Revit drawings for IT, AV, and Security systems.
  • Assist with preparing technology room layouts, device plans, RCPs, and risers.
  • Perform markups based on engineer direction.
  • Performs routine building technology functions such as reviewing manufacturer documentation for cabling, WAPs, network switches, cameras, access control devices, AV hardware, etc.
  • Summarize technical findings and compare product specifications.
  • Assist in updating internal design standards/best practices.
  • Assist in verifying telecom rooms, pathways, conduit capacities, MDF/IDF layout, and existing equipment.
  • Support creation of site survey reports.
  • Support RFI tracking and prepare engineer responses.
  • Help organize punch list documentation (photos, comments).
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
