About The Position

The Building Substitute Teacher is responsible for providing classroom coverage for any teacher who is absent for a specified period. The Building Substitute Teacher works the regular hours of the absent classroom teacher during his/her absence. When there is full coverage, the Building Substitute Teacher serves as a support staff member according to the school schedule by supporting students and teachers in the classroom.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in education or subject field (required)
Familiarity with research-based instructional strategies

Nice To Haves

Experience working with incarcerated or at-risk youth (preferred)

Responsibilities

Reviews and implements lesson plans provided by the absent teacher or Assistant Principal
Teaches content and skills in the subject area utilizing the curriculum designated by Maya Angelou Academy and other appropriate learning activities.
Supports students and teachers academically during classroom activities.
Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior necessary to provide an orderly and productive classroom environment.
Communicates with administration and colleagues about classroom challenges.
Participates in faculty committees, professional development workshops, and the sponsorship of student activities.
Administers testing in accordance with division testing practices.
Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
Performs any other duties as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrators
