The Building Performance Analyst at SmithGroup will collaborate with Sustainable Design leaders to develop performance models that address energy, daylighting, thermal comfort, airflow, and carbon impacts across various scales. This role involves providing modeling expertise, creating reports for clients, and enhancing the efficiency of performance modeling processes. The analyst will also be responsible for training staff and implementing performance modeling software.

  • Develop performance models (energy, daylighting, thermal comfort, airflow, carbon) at various scales in support of SmithGroup PACT.
  • Provide modeling expertise and technical parametric analysis for project design teams.
  • Create modeling concepts and reports for clients and external parties during project meetings and reviews.
  • Collaborate with professionals specializing in performance modeling.
  • Develop tools, processes, and standards to improve performance modeling efficiency.
  • Research, validate, and implement performance modeling software programs and tools.
  • Create staff training programs to enhance knowledge of performance modeling methods.
  • Minimum three to seven years of experience in sustainable design or energy modeling of building systems.
  • Ability to model building and system designs accurately to guide sustainability and energy reduction strategies.
  • Experience in preparing energy modeling reports per ASHRAE 90.1 and California Title24, and for LEED and Living Building Challenge.
  • Proficiency in energy modeling software including IES Virtual Environment and EnergyPlus.
  • Experience with CFD modeling and simulation tools for building spaces and airflow.
  • Familiarity with REVIT, SketchUp, Rhino, and Grasshopper.
  • Experience with Cove Tool, Open Studio, Climate Studio, Ladybug Tools, and Pollination.
  • Experience in CFD modeling and simulation (SimScale, Butterfly, Autodesk CFD).
