About The Position

Primarily responsible for the repair and maintenance of all School District buildings. Understands blueprints, sketches, or drawings of articles to be constructed or repaired for information pertaining to type of material required and dimensions of structure of fixture to be fabricated. Selects specific type lumber or other repair materials. Shapes materials to prescribed measurements, using saws and other tools. Bored holes for insertion of screws or dowels by hand or by using boring machine. Erects scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above-ground level. Builds, repairs, and installs counters, cabinets, benches, cubbies, partitions, blackboards, pencil sharpeners, lofts, etc. using carpenter's hand tools and power tools. Fits and installs prefabricated window frames, doors, doorframes, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim and finish hardware, such as locks, letter drops, and kick plates. Replaces damaged ceiling tile, floor tile, and wall coverings. Installs such items as window shades, venetian blinds, curtains rods, door locks, etc. Examines district-owned facilities on a regular basis for purposes of preventative maintenance. Receives work orders and plans work projects. Paints structures as needed. Responds in emergency situations as appropriate. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • HS diploma preferred.
  • Training in a technical trade, preferred.
  • At least two years of successful work experience in a technical trade relating to school plant maintenance.
  • Valid North Carolina Driver's License.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Must be able to physically perform the essential operational functions of stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, hearing, and repetitive motion
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds
  • Ability to read, write, plan, and comprehend
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards
