About The Position

Better Living Building Supply is looking for a Building Materials Associate to join our team at the Zion Crossroads location. This isn't just a warehouse job—you are the face of our company for every contractor and DIYer who drives into our yard. You will play a critical role in ensuring our customers get the right materials, safely and efficiently, to keep their projects moving. As a Building Materials Associate, your "office" is our lumber yard. You will be responsible for providing top-tier service while handling the high-quality products that Better Living is known for.

Requirements

  • A Service Mindset: You enjoy helping people and can maintain a professional attitude in a fast-paced environment.
  • Physical Stamina: This role requires working outdoors year-round in various weather conditions and the ability to consistently lift and move building materials (up to 50+ lbs).
  • Attention to Detail: Accuracy matters. You double-check orders to ensure our customers leave with exactly what they paid for.
  • Safety First: You have a strong awareness of your surroundings, especially when moving materials around vehicles and pedestrians.
  • Industry Interest: A background in construction or home improvement is a plus, but a willingness to learn our product lines is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Customer Support: Greet customers as they enter the yard, help them locate materials, and provide knowledgeable advice on our product lines.
  • Order Fulfillment: Accurately pull and load orders for pickup, ensuring that quantities and quality match the customer's invoice.
  • Material Handling: Safely handle and organize a wide range of building materials, including: Lumber & Engineered Wood: Helping customers select the right cuts and grades for their builds. Windows & Doors: Carefully moving and staging fragile units for transport. Siding & Roofing: Assisting with heavy bundles and ensuring they are loaded securely. Hardware & Supplies: Helping customers find the right fasteners and tools to complete the job.
  • Yard Maintenance: Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe environment for both employees and customers.
  • Inventory Control: Monitor stock levels and report any damages or discrepancies to management.

Benefits

  • A full benefit package including health, retirement, and profit sharing.
  • Local Roots: Be part of a family-owned company that has been a staple of the Virginia building community since 1893.
  • Stable Schedule: Full-time hours at our Zion Crossroads location. Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
  • Team Environment: Work with a group of professionals who take pride in the quality of their products and the level of service they provide.
