About The Position

A full-time building manager/caretaker for a six-story, single-family townhouse is sought in NYC. The schedule will typically be Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm, though candidates must be willing to troubleshoot issues outside of these hours if this is urgently required. The candidate will report to the owner and the chief of staff, and will be responsible for supporting the owner and his primary residence in the city (6 stories, 9300+ square feet) and a second property in Westchester (2 stories, 4700 sq ft). The candidate will be the eyes and ears of the property in the City, and respond as necessary to the property in Westchester. Candidates should ideally reside within a short commuting distance of the Upper West Side.

Requirements

  • US passport, Green Card, or EAC
  • Candidates must have a NYS driver’s license and their own vehicle for travel to Westchester and the rare errand in Manhattan – with gas/mileage to be reimbursed in a timely manner.
  • Candidates must also have a high school diploma or equivalent qualification, and a minimum of 2 years’ work experience in a similar role.
  • Candidates must have the ability to work with hardware tools and power equipment, be extremely organized with good communication skills, be detail-oriented with an aptitude for problem-solving, be a self-starter and able to see projects from start to finish, have a flexible demeanor, and be able to adjust with little notice.

Responsibilities

  • Using a strong knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general carpentry to identify problems and instigate repairs, and knowing when to call in vendors for larger repairs.
  • Supervising and/or assisting vendors with assigned work and ensuring that work is completed to the highest standards.
  • Conducting performance assessments of appliances, such as refrigerators, microwaves, stoves, ovens, and coffee makers, etc.
  • Performing basic tasks, including painting and filling crevices, helping with moving items, replacing light bulbs, replacing batteries in smoke detectors, changing air filters, etc.
  • Daily maintenance of the front exterior and back patio, including sweeping, washing, and snow shoveling.
  • Taking the garbage & recycling out twice a week.
  • Receiving mail, packages, and other deliveries.
  • Dog walking (3-year-old female miniature schnauzer).
  • Provide prompt and courteous service to guests and resolve their requests or concerns.
