About The Position

This position is with the Carson City Public Works Department.This is a part-time position, not to exceed 1,039 hours per fiscal year, July 1 through June 30. Under general supervision, performs a variety of custodial duties related to facility cleaning and maintenance. This position is expected to work swing shift, with hours varying from 4:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., approximately 14 - 20 hours per week. This recruitment is open on a continuous basis. Requirements

  • Equivalent to a High School education or GED
  • Safe work practices and regulations pertaining to the work.
  • Correct business English, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide. Ability to understand and apply ratios.
  • Safely using and maintaining hand and power tools related to the work.
  • Understanding and following oral and written directions.
  • Preparing basic records of work performed.
  • Performing general maintenance work, individually or as a member of a crew, in various areas, depending on the function.
  • Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities.
  • Ability to read and communicate with basic English skills.

Responsibilities

  • This position may require working non-traditional shift hours, which may include early morning, afternoon, evening, late night, or swing shift.
  • Availability to work on call, evenings, and weekends isrequired.
  • Moves and arranges furniture and A/V equipment to set up rooms for meetings and special functions.
  • Cleaning and sanitizing of hard floors, under bleachers, facility restrooms, auditorium floors, seats, windows, fixtures, mirrors and carpets.Empties trash and stocks supplies, etc.
  • Operation of cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor machines, buffers and carpet extractors.
  • Removes litter and debris from facility walkways and grounds.
  • Supervision and securing of facility.
  • Uses standard office equipment, including a computer, in the course of work; drives City vehicles to work sites, transports materials and assists other staff as required.
  • Provides customer service.
  • Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with contractors, public and City staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
