The Building Maintenance Worker at Montclair State University plays a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of the university's facilities. Reporting directly to the Crew Supervisor and/or Assistant Housekeeping Supervisor, this position involves a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks that ensure a safe and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. The worker will be responsible for cleaning campus facilities, which may involve working independently or as part of a team. Duties include cleaning public areas, meeting spaces, and classrooms, as well as performing room set-ups and maintaining restrooms. In addition to general cleaning tasks, the Building Maintenance Worker will be responsible for more specialized duties such as replacing light bulbs, cleaning light fixtures, and performing floor maintenance, which includes sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing floors, and vacuuming carpets. The role also involves collecting and removing trash, managing recyclable materials, dusting surfaces, and cleaning desks, tables, and chairs. The worker will also be tasked with graffiti removal and snow removal as directed. Participation in in-service training and university quality improvement initiatives is expected, as well as assisting with the sorting, distribution, transportation, and storage of cleaning supplies. Maintaining a clean and stocked janitorial closet and ensuring housekeeping equipment is in good working order are also key responsibilities. The management reserves the right to modify job duties as necessary.
