We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Part Time Building Maintenance Worker at William Paterson University. The building custodian will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and overall appearance of assigned buildings on campus. The schedule will include Monday - Thursday (8pm - 12am) and Sunday (3pm - 7pm).

  • Perform regular cleaning duties to ensure a clean and safe environment for students, staff, and visitors, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and disinfecting surfaces.
  • Empty all trash cans and recycling bins, safeguarding proper disposal and adherence to recycling guidelines. Replace trash bags as needed.
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and floors. Restock supplies such as toilet paper, hand soap, and paper towels.
  • Maintain the appearance of floors and carpets by sweeping, mopping, buffing, and vacuuming as necessary. Notify supervisor of any maintenance or repair needs.
  • Regularly sanitize high touch surfaces such as doorknobs, handrails, light switches, and elevator buttons.
  • Assist with the setup and breakdown of tables, chairs, and other equipment for events and meetings as needed.
  • Report any maintenance or repair needs to the appropriate supervisor in a timely manner. Keep accurate records of cleaning activities and supplies used.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines, including the proper use and storage of cleaning chemicals and equipment. Report any safety hazards or incidents to the supervisor immediately.
  • Collaborate with other custodial staff for consistent and efficient cleaning practices throughout the campus. Communicate effectively with supervisors and other team members regarding work schedules, tasks, and any issues or concerns.
  • Provide friendly and helpful customer service to students, staff, and visitors. Respond to requests and inquiries in a professional and prompt manner.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous custodial or cleaning experience preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Physical stamina to perform job duties such as lifting and moving furniture, walking, standing, and bending for extended periods.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work evening or weekend shifts as needed.
  • Rate of pay is $19.60/hour.
  • Part-time position with an average of 20 hours per week.
