About The Position

The Building Maintenance Technician is responsible for the ongoing maintenance and repair of a building or area. Duties can vary from day to day and a maintenance schedule may be implemented so time management skills are required. Building Maintenance Technicians need to have a good knowledge of building skills including HVAC, plumbing, drywall installation, painting, and general building repair. Also, the incumbent will need to be adept at using a variety of hand and electrical tools. This position has the possibility to work outdoors, in the elements, or across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends.

Requirements

  • Minimum 18 years of age and a high school diploma or GED, or currently enrolled in a technical degree program in good standing, and up to 3 years of general building maintenance experience
  • Ability to work outdoors, in the elements, or across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends if needed
  • Capable of basic installation and repairs to plumbing, HVAC, electrical, custodial, and other areas as needed
  • Must have the ability to climb heights, lift up to 60 lbs. and climb onto ladders
  • Ability to wear appropriate work attire (protective gear/PPE)
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment
  • Valid drivers license
  • Must have reasonable means of transportation to get to and from work.
  • Position is considered emergency response to respond to needs on campus even in inclement weather
  • This position is not eligible for employment-based sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and maintain plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems in the building
  • Calibrate instruments and tools required for job responsibilities
  • Maintain fire, carbon monoxide, smoke and other safety systems within the structure
  • Evacuate building in the event of an emergency
  • Maintain corporate safety procedures at all times and comply with access control regulations
  • Work with tools and supplies necessary to complete projects
  • Receive and respond to tenant reports of mechanical or maintenance issues on their premises
  • Communicate with facilities management about any work that requires outside expert assistance
