About The Position

Under supervision of the Facilities Director, is responsible for performing technical installation, repair, and maintenance of County-owned buildings, property, and related facilities, including repair, monitoring, and installation of specialized equipment or operating systems. Interaction with Burleigh Morton County Detention Center personnel and possibly inmates may occur. This position will be required to participate in the on-call rotation.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older, and a high school graduate or GED certified.
  • Must have a minimum of two (2) years of experience in a comparable position.
  • Must possess a valid class D North Dakota driver’s license, and a clean driving record.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods and techniques used in maintenance activities.
  • Must have reasonable interpersonal communication skills and be able to interact with fellow employees, professional staff, and the public.
  • Applicant will be subject to a criminal background check, physical and pre-employment drug screen.
  • Journeyman level of skill required.

Responsibilities

  • Must be able to perform all duties required for the position of Building Maintenance Technician I.
  • Provide building and equipment maintenance at a journeyman level in multiple disciplines including high voltage electrical, HVAC and refrigeration.
  • Ability to adjust and monitor computerized controls; and adjust and monitor security detention equipment.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Work on garbage disposals, dishwashers, trash compactors, and other commercial grade appliances.
  • Assist in project planning, cost estimation and the project prioritization process.
  • Provide maintenance of sidewalks including the use of a power blower, sweepers, and snow removal equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair chiller systems, hot water boilers and steam boilers.
  • Perform chemical testing of boiler and cooling towers.
  • Responsible for checking and testing of generators and grease interceptors.
  • Respond to after-hours emergency calls regarding building security, malfunctioning equipment or systems, and make or arrange for necessary repairs.
  • Respond to service ticket requests, general inquiries and complaints regarding the maintenance of assigned buildings and grounds.
  • Observe established safety practices and procedures and use protective safety gear when working with chemicals and equipment.
  • Create a positive and productive work atmosphere by communicating and maintaining a professional manner with employees and the public.
  • Prepare reports and inventory records of County equipment and supplies as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.
