The Building Maintenance Specialist I will perform a variety of entry-level semi-skilled carpentry, masonry, locksmith, or painting duties as needed to complete daily building and facilities maintenance, construction, and renovation in compliance with approved plans and building codes.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school.
  • One (1) year of specialized training provided through trade or technical school related to the maintenance and construction fields.
  • Two (2) years of experience in building construction or building maintenance requiring skill in carpentry, plumbing, electrical wiring, painting, and other related fields.
  • Some knowledge of one or more specialty craft methods and practices.
  • Some skill in the use of power and hand tools and equipment for specified crafts.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Must possess a valid Idaho Driver's License.
  • Must be available for 24-hour emergency call out.
  • Must be able to pass drug/alcohol testing and a pre-employment background check.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of semi-skilled duties related to the construction, maintenance, and repair of county buildings and facilities.
  • Perform general maintenance on various types of building components and apparatus.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on facility systems and equipment.
  • Monitor status of buildings and facilities regarding safety standards.
  • Assist with routine HVAC, plumbing, and locksmith duties.
  • Perform rough and finish carpentry.
  • Maintain physical aspects of county buildings such as window and door frames.
  • Fabricate shelving and furniture.
  • Participate in all carpentry aspects of new construction.
  • Perform custom concrete work.
  • Tape and texture sheet rock wall surfaces.
  • Perform custom painting of facility interiors and exteriors.
  • May perform custodial duties on an as-needed basis.
  • Perform other related maintenance and custodial duties as assigned or required.
