Located at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, the Facilities Building Maintenance Manager is responsible for maintaining the appearance and function of the Airport's 98 buildings, which include a terminal facility with over 2 million square feet, in accordance with federal, state, local and department requirements and standards, by scheduling and overseeing the work of employees performing essential maintenance and repair.

  • Supervises and directs the activities of supervisors, maintenance crews (currently 150 facilities building employee positions) and contractors in the areas of Contract Administration, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, structural and heavy-duty mechanical systems (e.g. Checked Baggage Inspection System and Passenger Loading Bridges).
  • Prepares 3 annual operating and capital budgets and effectively manage and control expenditures for building, loading bridges and conveyor systems.
  • Manages maintenance repair projects and systems maintenance contracts.
  • Monitors and reviews the work of maintenance contractors to ensure compliance with contract specifications.
  • Effectively manage energy consumption and recommend energy efficient strategies.
  • Effectively utilize the computer maintenance management program to manage resources and generate reports.
  • Motivates, instructs and coaches subordinates. Identifies and resolves performance issues.
  • Identifies needs and makes recommendations for improvements to further develop employee knowledge, technical skills and the efficiency of the operation.
  • Responds to calls outside of normal work hours and returns to work as needed to resolve urgent problems 24/7/365.
  • Coordinates activities of snow operations crews and annual inspections.
  • Identifies needs and develops content for apprenticeship program.
  • Associate's degree with five years of experience or
  • Bachelor's Degree with three years of related experience
  • Supervision Experience Required
  • Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
  • Considerable knowledge of the airport terminal operations, maintenance and other airport property, including related procedures and operation.
  • Through knowledge of how to interpret construction plans and sequence of operations.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards, environmental regulations, safety precautions or trade and the ability to enforce adequate safety precautions against such hazards, including related procedures and operations and the ability to communicate effectively and clearly, verbally and in writing, including radio communications are required.
  • Effective leadership and organizational skills, including the ability to motivate, instruct, train and coach subordinates are required, as is the initiative to identify, solve and follow-up on any performance issues or projects.
  • Skills to work effectively with tenants, co-workers, other agencies and the traveling public and represent the airport in a professional, positive manner.
  • Ability to enhance team spirit and improve conflict resolution and problem-solving skills amongst employees.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly, verbally and in writing, including radio communications.
  • Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Valid driver license in state of residence and ability to obtain and maintain a City driving permit.
  • Must successfully pass and maintain an active Security Threat Assessment (STA) and Criminal History Records Check (CHRC). Certain convictions will disqualify individuals from unescorted access privileges and therefore exclude from employment.
