About The Position

Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, the Building Maintenance Engineer I ensures the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of county facilities. This hands-on role involves a variety of maintenance, custodial, and groundskeeping tasks, including building checks, minor plumbing and repairs, snow removal, and meeting room setup. The Building Maintenance Engineer role requires attention to detail, self-motivation, and problem-solving skills to maintain a welcoming and efficient environment for employees and visitors.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of custodial practices.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to understand and follow oral instructions.
  • Ability to operate lawn mowing and snow removal equipment.

  • Ability to perform light repairs on work equipment.
  • Knowledge of applicable software applications.
  • Working knowledge of boilers.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of building maintenance experience, including experience with cleaning equipment and lawn mowing/snow removal equipment;
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Valid Class D Driver’s License.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid Special Class Engineer Boiler’s License.
  • Powered Limited Technician Licensure.
  • Ability to obtain a valid special class engineer boiler’s license.
  • Three years of building maintenance experience including experience with cleaning equipment and lawn mowing/snow removal equipment.
  • Boiler experience.

Responsibilities

  • Facility Cleaning: Empty wastebaskets, keep carpets clean, clean lobbies, entrances, entrance windows, and floor mats, sweep, dust, and vacuum.
  • Sanitation: Perform general sanitation in the break rooms, sanitize bathrooms, and clean meeting rooms before and after each use.
  • Move equipment and furniture as necessary.
  • Prepare room setup for public and staff meetings.
  • Respond promptly to building service requests to address maintenance or repair needs.
  • Perform routine building checks and minor repairs to ensure functionality and safety.
  • Check and maintain buildings.
  • Contact repair services when necessary.
  • Address minor plumbing issues such as unclogging toilets and sinks, cleaning faucet aerators, changing water filters, and maintaining toilet flush valves.
  • Performs minor repairs of interior finishes, including, but not limited to, walls, paint, flooring, ceilings, casework, door and hardware adjustments, and changing light bulbs.
  • Keep storage and maintenance areas clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies such as towels, soap, and toilet paper.
  • Pick up and properly store supplies.
  • Assemble and maintain office equipment, light fixtures, and other items as required.
  • Grounds-keeping: Keep outdoor areas clean and safe by removing debris, snow, and ice as necessary.
  • Perform basic landscaping, including grass cutting and trimming.
  • Conduct light maintenance, schedule service and repairs, and wash and clean fleet cars.
  • Assist staff with tasks such as obtaining supplies, moving furniture, and setting up or taking down furniture for meetings and events.
