About The Position

Responsible for the inspection of construction sites and projects to ensure compliance with City ordinances, specifications, building codes and reviewed plans; Reviews, Alteration and repairs, structural safety and conformity to established code requirements and submitted plans and specifications, for both residential and commercial structures Deals with contractors and the public on matters or corrections in order to comply with regulations, notifies contractors of any violations and takes appropriate action to ensure violations are corrected; Prepares daily inspection reports, drawings and design, keeps records, checks for possession of permits and licenses; Deals with contractors and the public on matters relating to building regulations Answers zoning and code questions; Performs final inspections of construction projects to assure overall conformity to code requirements; Attend classes, seminars and conferences to remain current on code changes and other applications as they occur; Performs related work as required.

Requirements

• Associate's Degree or higher in Engineering, Building Science or a related field AND three (3) years or more of experience as a Building Inspector, Engineer, Architect, Superintendent or Foreman involved in construction, or any combination of these; OR High School Diploma/GED AND seven (7) years or more of experience as a Building Inspector, Engineer, Architect, Superintendent or Foreman involved in construction, or any combination of these
• Current certification as either a commercial or a residential Building Inspector by the International Code Council (ICC) or certification must be obtained within one (1) year from the date of hire.
• Possession of a valid driver's license and the ability to obtain/maintain a City of Hoover Driver's Permit.
