About The Position

Serves as the Pueblo of Sandia’s Building Inspector on all construction projects to ensure that new construction, alterations, or repairs comply with local and national building codes and ordinances, zoning regulations, and contract specifications. Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED Certification or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a contractor, engineer, architect, or as a superintendent.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of houses and buildings.
  • Knowledge of building codes.
  • Knowledge of word processing such as Microsoft Office, spreadsheet applications and the ability to learn similar applications such as Microsoft Project.
  • Ability to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Ability to communicate, understand and carry out written or oral instructions.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Ability to deal effectively with contractors, staff, and the general public.
  • Ability to work efficiently and accurately in an atmosphere of frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to work odd and unusual hours. Weekends and overtime may be required.
  • Ability to use a word processor, computer terminal and standard office equipment.
  • ICC-B2 Commercial Building Inspector’s Certification.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted New Mexico Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a stringent background investigation.
  • Will require a pre-employment and random drug screening.

Responsibilities

  • Enforces the provisions of building codes and has the authority to render interpretations of the codes.
  • Receives applications, reviews plan documents and issues permit for construction and alteration, demolition and moving of buildings and structures.
  • Conducts inspections of the premises for which permits have been issued and enforces compliance with the provisions of the codes.
  • Performs all required inspections and has the authority to accept reports of inspection by approved agencies or individuals.
  • Secures such expert opinion as deemed necessary to report upon unusual technical issues that arise.
  • Keeps official records of applications received, permits and certificates issued, fees collected, reports of inspections, and notices and orders issued.
  • Inspects project for compliance with approved plans and specifications.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
