The Building Inspector position in Burnet, Texas, is a responsible, technical, non-supervisory role focused on enforcing and interpreting building, zoning, and city ordinances for both residential and commercial developments. The inspector is tasked with ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards during construction and remodeling projects, while also providing guidance to developers and the public regarding building standards. Additional responsibilities include managing cemetery plot sales and maintaining related records.

  • Inspect various commercial and residential structures during construction and remodeling to ensure compliance with applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Issue notices of violations and stop work orders as required.
  • Perform follow-up inspections.
  • Review construction and site plans to ensure compliance with adopted building codes and zoning requirements.
  • Issue permits for buildings, plumbing, heating and air conditioning, and electrical construction.
  • Prepare inspection and various other reports.
  • Conduct utility service connections for both residential and commercial services.
  • Review OSSF applications for compliance with adopted codes and either approve or deny applications.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years experience as a building inspector preferred or 2-5 years experience as a construction foreman.
  • Valid Texas motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Current State of Texas plumbing inspector's license.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain certification as either a residential or commercial building inspector.
  • Certification as a Designated Representative for On-Site Sewage Facility within 12 months of employment.
  • Specialized training in construction trades, building inspection, or a related field preferred.
  • Sufficient technical knowledge to conduct inspections of building construction, plumbing, electrical, framing, foundation, and HVAC systems.
  • Ability to read detailed plans to determine compliance with City requirements.
