About The Position

The position involves inspecting construction, electrical, and mechanical/plumbing installations at residential, commercial, and industrial buildings and structures throughout all stages of construction, alteration, and repair to ensure compliance with applicable state and local regulations. The inspector enforces building, electrical, and safety codes, laws, regulations, and standards. The work is performed in a standard office environment, with frequent visits to construction sites, exposing the inspector to inclement weather. The role requires light physical demands, including frequent climbing, bending, kneeling, and lifting, as well as regular use of a personal computer. The position involves competing demands, performing multiple tasks, working to deadlines, and occasionally working beyond normal business hours. Regular attendance is essential to ensure continuity of services, and the position is subject to drug testing in accordance with applicable regulations and policies.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to a High school diploma.
  • Three years of foreman-level experience in general construction, electrical, or mechanical/plumbing.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • New Mexico State Construction Industries Division (CID) Certification as a Mechanical/Plumbing Inspector, Electrical Inspector, or Building Inspector.
  • Must receive national certification as a Commercial and Residential Inspector within one year of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • International Code Council (ICC) certification is preferred.
  • Additional technical certifications may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects residential, commercial, and industrial construction and building projects to ensure compliance with applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Performs field inspections to evaluate work performed and materials used, verifying quality of workmanship and compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Issues citations, notices of violation, occupancy certificates, and work stop orders as necessary.
  • Maintains communication with developers and builders regarding inspection projects and analyzes practices for improvements.
  • Provides customer service by answering questions related to codes and requirements for installations and equipment.
  • Investigates citizen complaints against contractors and coordinates resolution of conflicts.
  • Maintains and updates inspection records and project documentation.
