About The Position

The Building Inspections Supervisor oversees the team of Building Inspectors who are tasked with inspecting development projects, in accordance with relevant state and local codes, standards, approved plans, and manufacturer specifications and requirements. He or she assigns work, provides direction, trains, and evaluates the County's building inspectors.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited high school or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the building construction profession or trades.
  • Minimum of five (5) years as a construction inspector.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be able to secure a valid Florida Driver's license at the time of employment for this position.
  • Must possess a standard license as a Building Code Administrator from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR).
  • Must possess four (4) of the following standard Inspectors licenses in the following trades: Building, Commercial Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical and Residential from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR).
  • A Plans Reviewer license may be substituted in lieu of one (1) of the building inspector license requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors field inspections and re-inspections, if necessary, in accordance with county procedures and the adopted codes and standard in licensed disciplines.
  • Provides in-field assistance to inspectors on challenging issues.
  • Interprets and enforces the Florida Building Code and other relevant codes and ordinances.
  • Stays abreast of changes to the Florida Building Code and other relevant codes and ordinances and ensures the inspectors are aware of any such changes.
  • Ensures that all necessary plan revisions are approved prior to inspection approval.
  • Knowledge of all applicable technologies utilized within the Division.
  • Professionally and effectively communicates with property owners and contractors about inspection findings.
  • Routinely works with customers to get violations corrected or to determine code compliance.
  • Regularly communicates with plans examiners, other county divisions, and external agencies to provide coordinated responses to customers.
  • Monitors inspection schedules to ensure inspections are performed in a timely manner.
  • Maintains inspection checklists and updates as needed.
  • Assists with the development and tracking of performance measures, goals, and strategies.
  • May be required to provide damage assessment assistance to the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during times of emergency.
  • Provides or arranges training for staff as needed.
  • May act as the Building Official in his or her absence.
