About The Position

We are hiring several Estimators to support our Kiewit Building Group in the Vertical market. We are looking for individuals with a few years of estimating under their belt for engineering/construction projects, that are passionate about project planning, risk management and are focused on the details, that want to grow their career in estimating and preconstruction engineering. You will work with seasoned estimators, supporting various design/build estimates for projects around the East coast, for vertical buildings that include new construction, modifications or upgrades for various types of buildings including: government buildings, historical buildings, mixed-use/commercial, higher education, healthcare, sports facilities, large private healthcare, hotels, and high-rises. Requirements

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in mechanical, electrical, civil or construction-related technology, OR if no degree, minimum of 8 years related work experience leading to a thorough understanding of the knowledge, skills and abilities used in estimating.
  • 3+ years' related estimating experience in the engineering/construction space.
  • Experience with resource loaded/cost loaded estimates is required, experience performing material takeoffs.
  • Experience must include knowledge and estimating for vertical Building projects, preferably performing design/build estimates.
  • Exceptionally strong attention to detail, communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products (e.g. Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and estimating software tools.
  • Willingness to visit project sites for walkdowns for estimating purposes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop complete estimates for large, complex jobs.
  • Review owner plans and specifications to develop a comprehensive understanding of the project; develop plan for the actual construction to serve as basis for the estimate.
  • Reviewing and assisting with proposals and other documentation to prepare cost estimates.
  • Reviews all bid and contract documents and home office legal department opinions.
  • Conduct site investigation prior to forming a plan of operations to identify any problems or conditions of an unusual nature that may be present.
  • Utilize engineer techniques and procedures to conduct investigation and adhere to standard company policy and procedures.
  • Perform design work as required by the project that is beyond the estimator scope of experience; handle any major technical problems encountered during bid preparation.
  • Stay abreast of trends and developments, such as new equipment, methods and procedures that are developing in the industry.
  • Become proficient in Kiewit's estimating program, 'InEight Estimate'.
  • Provide leadership and strategy in subcontractor and vendor selection process.
  • Prepare special engineering studies or reports required by certain bid items or conditions.
  • Consult with owners on various problems discovered during bid preparation, design, rates, schedules, etc.
