About The Position

We are seeking a Building Environmental Services Technician to maintain the safety, security, and overall environmental well-being of The Mather Tysons. This position is responsible for conducting thorough property inspections (indoors and outdoors), monitoring all access points, responding to emergencies, and enforcing policies to ensure a secure and hazard-free environment. Working independently with minimal supervision, the technician ensures that all safety protocols are followed, incidents are documented accurately, and effective communication is maintained between shifts. The role requires proactive problem-solving, attention to detail, and the ability to respond calmly and efficiently to emergent situations. We have one overnight part-time opening. Weekend and holiday availability required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 2-3 years of relevant experience, in areas such as public safety, security, environmental safety and at least 21 years of age
  • Proficiency in English language
  • Experience working with older adults
  • Willingness to be part of a self-directed team
  • Service orientation with excellent interpersonal skills; ability to multi-task
  • Beginner proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Proficient with digital devices such as barcode scanners, iPads, and surveillance systems
  • Strong attention to detail and communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Conduct multiple scheduled inspections and walkthroughs using barcode scanning to monitor security at key locations. Walkthroughs should cover both indoor and outdoor premises, including hallways and stairwells.
  • Inspect parking areas for suspicious activity or unauthorized vehicles and address violations.
  • Check for fire hazards, blocked exits, or improper material storage.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to all residents, guests, and visitors of the Mather
  • Review emails, receive shift briefings, and collect necessary equipment (radio, iPad, barcode scanner).
  • Verify visitor check-ins, ensure entry points are secure, and log late-night deliveries.
  • Monitor contractor activities to ensure compliance with policies.
  • Monitor closed-circuit television (CCTV) or other surveillance systems for suspicious activity or unauthorized access.
  • Respond to door alerts, emergency wellness checks, or other security concerns.
  • Respond promptly to fire, weather, or other emergency alarms and follow established protocols.
  • Assist in emergency evacuations or conduct safety drills when required.
  • Escort staff or visitors to their vehicles upon request.
  • Identify and address slip, trip, or fall hazards such as spills or uneven flooring.
  • Report maintenance issues, including malfunctioning doors or lights, to the appropriate team.
  • Identify any facility issues and generate a work request.
  • Complete all assigned tasks and duties utilizing computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Document suspicious activities, security incidents, or emergencies through detailed reports.
  • Assist with investigations, including gathering evidence or interviewing witnesses.
  • Coordinate with law enforcement or emergency services when necessary.
  • Collaborate with reception to resolve security issues and provide updates.
  • Perform final lobby check-ins to confirm all information is up to date.
  • Inspect the loading dock for overnight package deliveries and ensure proper handling.
  • Secure all exterior doors, including side doors, to maintain building security and manage accessibility according to schedule.
  • Check compactor rooms for proper functionality.
  • Enforce property policies, such as noise restrictions, smoking bans, or curfews, in a professional manner.
  • Work with appropriate leaders, Assistant Director of Hospitality Services and Chief Engineer regarding policy violations.
  • Complete checklists, email detailed pass-on reports to day shift to include turnover items and clock out on time.
