About The Position

The Building Engineer will work closely with the Senior Building Engineer and facilities team to support all facilities related to our buildings and equipment. The Building Engineer must have strong problem-solving and communication skills and be able to work independently and as part of a team. This person will have great customer service abilities and technical knowledge. It is his or her duty to make sure the building’s equipment and amenities are always in excellent working conditions.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of working as a facilities tech, building engineer, or in building maintenance and repairs.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, technical trade school certification preferred
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Knowledge of Building Automation and Management Systems (BAS and BMS)
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable safety regulations and procedures
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair a variety of building systems
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Must be able to prioritize work based on urgency
  • Must be able to navigate in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
  • Must pay attention to detail and maintain all work in a clean and organized fashion
  • Ability to work with diverse, dynamic team effectively as well as independently with minimal supervision
  • Must be able to perform the following essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation: frequently standing, walking, using hands to handle or feel objects, reaching with hands and arms, and communicating by talking or hearing.
  • Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

  • Must be able to travel to all Fremont facilities to perform maintenance and support as required.
  • Must be able to work in cold and warm environments.
  • On-call for emergencies and respond to after-hour alarms as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the senior building engineer and senior facilities manager in all aspects of project implementation as needed.
  • Support and supervision with external contacts as needed.
  • Assist with facility activities and support systems.
  • Develop and update SOPs
  • Identify and procure parts, supplies, and materials as needed and organize locations for them.
  • Update inventory list including light bulbs, closures, ceiling tiles, keys, bathroom parts, fixtures, desks, chairs, valves, etc.
  • Understand and utilize the CMMS system, including receiving work requests, providing updates, and marking them complete. Implement new preventative maintenance procedures and schedules that don’t currently exist.
  • Inspect and perform preventive maintenance on all building systems and equipment, including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, electrical, elevators, and security systems
  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests and assess the building for potential safety hazards.
  • Perform frequent scheduled checks on building equipment to ensure proper functioning.
  • Prepare reports and documents related to building maintenance and repairs.
  • Ensure that the building meets all safety and health regulations. Guarantee adherence to safety practices and principles.
  • Coordinate with outside vendors and contractors for maintenance and repair services
  • Assist in managing building maintenance budget
  • Construct and repair; such as metal and wood structures, furniture, and facilities equipment. Arrange exterior parts for varnishing and painting and apply surface cover ups as necessary.
  • Assist with plumbing and mechanical related tasks for the buildings.
  • Ability to work with diverse machines and equipment, such as hand and power tools, and drill presses, saws in carrying out maintenance and repair tasks. Ensure the maintenance of facilities, equipment and tools are in a clean, secure, and appropriate working condition.
  • Attempt troubleshooting to replace or repair fans and motors, belts, clocks and lightening circuits, as well as audio visual and communication equipment. If unable to repair in-house, understand who to call and schedule a repair from an outside source.
  • Monitor contractor performance and work closely with outside vendors and contractors to ensure work is completed according to specifications.
  • Weekday and weekend on call responsibilities.
