About The Position

The Building Engineer is generally responsible for the operation and maintenance of both high-rise and mid-rise office building equipment, including air conditioning, heating, electrical, plumbing, and emergency systems such as generators and fire life/safety systems. This role may provide on-call support across multiple properties, assisting with tasks wherever needed. This role ensures consistent property upkeep by performing repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance across the portfolio. Ideal for a skilled, adaptable technician who thrives in a dynamic environment and is comfortable working at various locations based on operational needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2+ years of experience supporting a “Class A” commercial property
  • Possess demonstrated electrical, plumbing and HVAC skills and knowledge
  • Knowledge of HVAC, pneumatics, central plant functions/TES, electrical and plumbing systems
  • Prior experience in light construction including drywall repair, ceiling repair, painting, facilities coordination, safety management, OSHA compliance and equipment maintenance
  • Must have own vehicle
  • Driving is an essential duty of this position: Candidates must be able to show proof of a valid driver’s license and current personal automobile liability insurance coverage.
  • Ability to speak, read, write and understand the English language
  • Interpret and carry out written or verbal instructions
  • Read diagrams and blueprints
  • Basic math skills required
  • Ability to interpret and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to solve both technical and practical problems.
  • Communicate effectively with tenants and team members
  • Provide excellent customer service to tenants and team members

Responsibilities

  • Maintains building climate by installing, repairing, and servicing heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning equipment (HVAC), including working on multi-ton chiller units, as well as 20-ton to 50-ton package AC units.
  • Maintains lighting by installing and repairing wiring and fixtures, including bulbs.
  • Maintains equipment by installing and repairing associated and backup equipment and systems.
  • Keeps equipment, systems, and building ready for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes.
  • Secures building and occupants by maintaining alarm and fire protection devices.
  • Maintains systems for conveying liquids and liquid waste by installing and repairing plumbing apparatus.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Maintains parts and equipment inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed parts and equipment; placing and expediting orders for parts and equipment; verifying receipt of parts and equipment.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • The ability to respond to property-related emergencies after business hours and on weekends when necessary.
  • Other tasks as assigned
