About The Position

Boardwalk Investments Group, LLC ("Boardwalk") is a privately held commercial real estate investment company. Headquartered in Costa Mesa, California, the Firm currently manages a commercial real estate portfolio comprised of retail, mixed-use, office and multifamily assets located primarily in Orange County, California. Since 2012, Boardwalk's investment strategy is to actively acquire, stabilize, and manage commercial real estate located in core, coastal markets in California. The Building Engineer is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all building systems within our residential apartment community. This position ensures the property’s mechanical, electrical, structural, and life-safety systems are maintained to the highest standards. The ideal candidate is technically skilled, proactive, and service-oriented, with a strong commitment to operational excellence and resident satisfaction.

Requirements

  • 2–3 years of experience in commercial or residential building engineering, facilities maintenance, or related technical field.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing electrical and carpentry-related issues.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Familiarity with building codes, OSHA regulations, and safety compliance standards.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or work order platforms.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and safely maneuver tools, materials, and equipment as required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, and repair building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and structural components.
  • Perform routine inspections, testing, and preventive maintenance to ensure optimal performance and longevity of equipment.
  • Diagnose system malfunctions, troubleshoot issues, and implement effective repairs in a timely manner.
  • Respond promptly to service requests and maintenance work orders, ensuring minimal disruption to residents.
  • Monitor and maintain life-safety systems in compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
  • Conduct regular property inspections of residential units, common areas, amenities, and exterior grounds to identify deficiencies or safety concerns.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities, inspections, repairs, and equipment inventory within the facility management system.
  • Manage and prioritize work orders to ensure timely completion and operational efficiency.
  • Coordinate and supervise third-party contractors for specialized repairs, capital projects, and inspections.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local building codes, safety standards, and company policies.
  • Maintain clean, organized maintenance shops, storage areas, and equipment rooms.
  • Collaborate with property management and leasing teams to support operational goals and resident retention.
  • Identify and recommend capital improvements, system upgrades, and energy-efficiency initiatives.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service through professional and courteous interactions with residents and team members.
