About The Position

Full-Time 12-Month Position at Beadle Middle School Position Includes: Health, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance Paid Holidays, Vacation, and Sick Leave Excellent Retirement Plan This position requires availability for weekend building checks on a rotating basis. Title: Middle School Engineer (Group 6) Reports to: Maintenance Manager General Summary: Employees in this job classification perform various duties requiring moderate physical strength. Typical routine duties include, but are not restricted to: performing tasks associated with the District’s housekeeping, snow removal, preventative maintenance, and grounds programs; examining school facilities and grounds for needed repairs and maintenance, reporting needs for maintenance when repairs cannot be completed at the building level; assuming responsibility for the overall cleanliness and conditions of assigned area; properly caring for and utilizing assigned equipment and supplies; maintaining and performing repairs on housekeeping equipment, electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilating, cooling, emergency lighting, fire alarm and fire extinguishing systems; demonstrating acceptable interpersonal skills and working relations with co-workers, staff, students, and general public; performing other tasks associated with the prescribed housekeeping, grounds, maintenance, and snow removal program; preparing and submitting reports and performing additional tasks as required. Essential Functions: Performs general maintenance duties associated with the District’s preventative maintenance program, including inspecting and monitoring fire alarm systems, making minor electrical, plumbing, playground, door hardware, & HVAC repairs; changing filters, belts, removing and replacing defective lights, plugs, switches, ballasts, flush valves, diaphragms, & faucet washers; keeps ceiling tile in place; operates, cleans and cares for assigned equipment, cleans air returns and vents, prepares paperwork/reports of needs or potential repairs and/or maintenance which cannot be corrected at the building level. (75%) Sets-up, monitors and cleans up for the lunch program; picks up and empties trash; picks up trash from grounds and playgrounds areas. (15%) Water and maintains turf, sweeps sidewalks, and performs snow removal operations; provides services for special activities, replaces dispensers, works closely with the custodial staff, to provide feedback on building maintenance actions. Requirements

  • Education Level: High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Formal certified training in HVAC, plumbing, refrigeration, and electrical systems.
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of and able to make repairs to HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems.
  • Ability to perform manual tasks requiring moderate physical strength.
  • Ability to operate mechanical equipment associated with the building maintenance, grounds and housekeeping program.
  • Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of proper usage of housekeeping products and equipment.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude identifying and making repairs to HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems.
  • Ability to establish and maintain acceptable working relations with supervisors, staff, students, general public and fellow workers.
  • Be available for overtime as required.
  • Presents a neat clean appearance.
  • Complete required training.
  • Ability to work from ladder, scaffolding.and personal lifts.

Nice To Haves

  • One year successful experience in HVAC, electrical, and plumbing maintenance.
  • Three years successful experience in HVAC, electrical and plumbing Maintenance for preferred status.
  • Experience as Middle School Custodian and/or 50% of experience as a Custodian II would count toward the three years.
  • Able to perform assigned tasks in housekeeping, electrical, plumbing, HVAC and turf with minimum supervision.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of proper usage of products and equipment.
