The Building Engineer I is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical and mechanical systems of SCFTA buildings and facilities including electrical, mechanical, heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and plumbing systems; performance of the on-going maintenance and safety functions at various SCFTA facilities; and working as assigned by the Director of Facilities or Senior Engineers. Each engineer is responsible for providing facilities support, on a rotating basis, for all events, performances, and activities in the venue during a weekly rotation.

  • Installs, maintains, and repairs facilities equipment such as low-pressure boilers, chillers, air handlers, fan coil units, humidifiers, water heaters, pumps, generators, compressors, steam lines, water lines, gas lines and electrical systems.
  • Responsible for basic techniques in electrical (lighting fixtures, outlet wiring), HVAC (ductwork, control wiring), carpentry (door and seat hardware) and plumbing (clog clearing, faucet leaks) repairs as assigned by the leadership.
  • Performs the more difficult repair work such as performing minor modifications and maintenance, removing doors, replacing overhead tiles, repairing roof and leaks.
  • Performs electrical maintenance work such as disconnecting, replacing, and rerouting electrical systems, as well as wall switches and plug receptacles.
  • Operates and troubleshoots issues related to the Building Management System controls for the HVAC equipment.
  • Plans, coordinates, and performs the on-going maintenance, and safety functions at various SCFTA locations.
  • Identifies, diagnoses, and corrects facility operating system problems.
  • May perform minor braising and welding repairs involving a variety of metals.
  • Determines necessary equipment and materials, and purchases such as items using a SCFTA accounts or credit cards.
  • Tests and treats hot water heating system and chilled water system in heating and air conditioning systems.
  • Drives automotive equipment in the performance of duties.
  • Ensures conformance to ADA compliance and CAL-OSHA and safety regulations.
  • Maintains a 'work in progress' tracking log using designated computer applications.
  • May provide training and technical guidance to Engineers or other SCFTA staff.
  • Communicates with professional, governmental, and civic businesspersons and organizations.
  • Provides courteous, high-quality service to members of the public by personally responding to requests for service or making appropriate referral.
  • Ensure the optimum safety, quality, and performance from building maintenance contractors as they execute their contracts.
  • Responsible for ensuring the housekeeping contractor maintains the facilities in a clean manner, directs the cleaning staff on special projects or remedial cleaning.
  • Coordinates annual capital projects as assigned, for the facilities and grounds.
  • Reports and identifies areas of potential energy savings throughout all systems in all venues.
  • Inspects buildings and grounds daily to ensure high standards of interior and exterior maintenance.
  • Helps monitor the operation of Patina Restaurant Group in Leatherby's and the intermission bars.
  • Associate's degree in building operation and maintenance technology field, and/or two years of journey-level experience operating, maintaining, and repairing HVAC and building systems; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with hand, power, and shop tools.
  • Experience with basic carpentry techniques.
  • Experience with basic electrical and plumbing troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Experience in reading and understanding building plans and drawings.
  • Experience with installation and repair of mechanical and electrical systems and building maintenance equipment.
  • Experience working in a multi-venue performing arts organization highly desired but not required.
  • Some computer-related experience a plus.
