The Building Department Manager serves as the Chief Building Official for the City of Lincoln Park, overseeing the Building Department's operations and personnel. This role is pivotal in ensuring compliance with building codes and ordinances, and it involves planning, organizing, and managing all activities related to the department. The manager is responsible for directing and assigning work to staff, ensuring thorough and timely inspections and plan reviews, and exercising proper discretion in the enforcement of codes and ordinances. The position requires maintaining active relationships with owners and developers throughout all phases of development, and it demands effective leadership to foster a high-performance, customer service-oriented work environment. In addition to supervisory responsibilities, the Building Department Manager may perform the duties of a building inspector and issue permits as necessary. The role includes explaining, interpreting, and providing guidance on applicable codes and ordinances to various stakeholders, including architects, engineers, contractors, and the public. The manager is also tasked with preparing departmental reports, evaluations, and inspection reports, as well as presenting case information for court and preparing the departmental budget. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and conflict resolution, ensuring that the department meets its objectives while maintaining a focus on public service and safety. The Building Department Manager will also serve as a liaison for appointed boards and commissions, attending meetings and providing technical and administrative support as required.
