About The Position

Technical work conducting building inspections to ensure compliance with existing codes, ordinance and statues. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City. This position is considered an "Essential Position" for the purpose of Emergency Management.  Emergency duties will be assigned as needed.   This position requires 24 hours a day, 7 days per week availability during City of Port St Lucie emergencies, as determined by City Administrators, Emergency Manager or City Officials. Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma required.
• I. Five (5) years' experience in construction, design or inspections of buildings as supervisor or contractor, and must possess a minimum of ONE valid building inspector certification or the ability to obtain certification within twelve (12) months of hire.
• II. Six (6) years' experience in construction, design, or inspections of buildings as supervisor or contractor, and must possess minimum of TWO (2) valid building inspector certifications.
• III. Seven (7) years' experience in construction, design, or inspections of buildings as supervisor or contractor, and must possess minimum of THREE (3) valid building inspector certifications.
• IV. Eight (8) years' experience in construction, design, or inspections of buildings as supervisor or contractor, and must possess a minimum of FOUR (4) valid building inspector certifications or the One and Two Dwelling Inspector Certification.
• Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License and maintenance of a clean driving record required. Possession and maintenance of State of Florida-mandated licensing requirements.
• Knowledge of principles and practices of building construction.
• Knowledge of building codes.
• Skill in using standard equipment and testing devices.
• Skill in correcting correct defects in building constructions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.
• Ability to interpret technical designs and blueprints.
• Ability to enforce building codes.

• Conducts site visits to make building inspections.
• Confers with contractors to explain corrective action necessary for voluntary compliance.
• Records and documents all building inspections.
• Provides information and assistance to the public, contractors or other employees.
• Keeps supervisors apprised of all building inspection activities.
• Accesses, inputs, and retrieves information from a computer.
• Other duties as may be assigned.
