About The Position

Under supervision, the Building Code Inspector Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the activities of a team of building code Inspectors to ensure construction and development projects comply with applicable building codes, zoning laws, and safety regulations.

Requirements

• High school diploma/GED and four (4) years of job-related experience; or one (1) year of experience required at the lower level Safety & Compliance Spec 3 (RCP012) or position equivalent.
• Some positions may require a valid driver's license.
• Some positions may require certification and/or licensure.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and evaluate the work of subordinates performing field inspections for new construction, remodeling, and repair projects.
• Provide technical direction, mentoring, and training to inspection staff to ensure accurate code interpretation and enforcement.
• Conduct complex inspections and handle escalated issues involving major developments or code disputes.
• Review inspection reports, correction notices, and documentation to ensure compliance with department policies and applicable codes and local ordinances.
• Monitor construction activities to ensure public safety, structural integrity, and regulatory compliance.
• Coordinate with plan review staff, contractors, architects, engineers, and developers to resolve code-related issues and facilitate project progress.
• Participate in the recruitment, onboarding, and performance evaluation of inspection personnel.
• Keep current with changes to federal, state, and local codes and communicate updates to the inspection team.
• Maintain inspection records, generate reports, and contribute to departmental planning and improvement initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
