About The Position

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Building Automation System Specialist 3, Facilities Management [R0149636] ROLE of the POSITION The Building Automation System Specialist 3 is the advanced journeyman level position which under limited supervision, function as a lead worker for lower-level Building Automation System Specialists and contractors on a regular basis campus-wide, to include assigning, supervising, and reviewing work; providing work direction, training, and input to performance evaluations for Building Automation System Specialists; functioning as a technical expert; must possess a greater depth of knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with the trades, building codes, and building systems; and performing complex building automation system assignments. In addition, incumbents are responsible for developing work plans; assisting with section priorities; providing technical assistance to solve building automation controls system problems; creating, modifying, and programming server system graphical representation. The incumbent will oversee campus-wide building automation systems. They may analyze, design, install, program, commission, monitor, troubleshoot, maintain, and optimize controls for mechanical, HVAC&R, plumbing, lighting, energy management, fire/life safety, security, access control, and ancillary equipment to ensure peak efficiency, occupant comfort, and safety. Provide timely response to diagnose source of customer concerns, analyze system requirements, test components, and recommend corrective action, including on-call and emergency support as required. Work schedule is initially Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. Schedule to adjust to meet the needs of the BAS/EMS Controls and Facilities Management.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of experience in building automation systems including one year of journey level experience which included programming such as fault detection diagnostics or programming complex building automation systems such as large mechanical systems (e.g., central energy plants, chiller loops) and commissioning, validating, and calibrating building automation systems assets; OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, management information systems, construction, engineering, occupational safety, or related field and three years of experience as described above; OR one year of experience as a Building Automation System Specialist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
  • Class 'C' operator's license
  • Following certifications must be obtained within 12 months of hire;
  • Manufacturer's or Industry accepted training for Building Automation Networking Basics
  • Manufacturer's or Industry accepted training of Building Automation Programming
  • Manufacturer's or Industry accepted training of Building Automation Operations and Troubleshooting
  • OSHA 10 Hour Certification

Nice To Haves

  • Industry standard accredited training in communications protocols (Bacnet, Modbus, Lon, etc.)
  • Industry standard accredited training in DDC Controls and integration
  • Industry standard accredited training in DDC programming (preferable Honeywell International CPO)
  • Experience in computers, computer networking, servers as related to Building Automation
  • Experience in working with mechanical engineers and consultants for Building Automation applications.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate, test, and resolve issues across direct digital controls, routers, alarms, software, instrumentation, and interconnected systems using specialized tools and industry-standard test equipment.
  • Formulate corrective actions for complex failures; wire sensors, relays, controllers, and instruments.
  • Administer servers, databases, backups, data conversion, client interfaces, and performance analytics; generate findings reports.
  • Ensure compliance with federal/state/local regulations, university policies, codes, and manuals.
  • Interpret blueprints, schematics, design plans, submittals, and sequences of operations.
  • Recommend facility improvements, energy management strategies, and system integrations to management.
  • Configure set points; create/modify programming and oversee installations/replacements.
