About The Position

$2500 sign-on bonus is available to EXTERNAL candidates only and is paid over a 2-year period. Hours: Coverage is needed for 24/7, so shifts with be reviewed with the hiring manager. The Building Automation Systems (BAS) Technician is responsible for the installation, operation, maintenance, and optimization of all building automation platforms, including HVAC controls, lighting systems, energy management, alarms, and related low-voltage devices. This role ensures reliable, safe, and efficient environmental control throughout the facility, directly supporting patient comfort, clinical operations, and system reliability.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical school or associate degree preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with BAS or low-voltage systems.
  • Hands-on experience with HVAC controls, VFDs, sensors, lighting controls, and related automation equipment.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical plans, and sequences of operation.
  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and participate in rotating on‑call or shift assignments.
  • Physical ability to lift 50 lbs., climb ladders, work in ceilings, and access mechanical spaces.
  • Valid driver’s license and dependable transportation.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency call-ins.

Nice To Haves

  • Low Voltage Certification (Preferred).
  • BAS-specific certifications preferred (Niagara, Johnson Controls, Siemens, Trane, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • System Installation & Maintenance Install, configure, calibrate, and commission BAS hardware, sensors, actuators, VAV controllers, and low-voltage control systems.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance to ensure proper operation of HVAC automation, lighting controls, and monitoring systems.
  • Troubleshoot advanced technical issues related to wiring, communication protocols, controllers, and software logic.
  • System Monitoring & Optimization Continuously monitor BAS dashboards and alarms, responding to system faults and operational abnormalities.
  • Adjust system parameters to improve comfort, reliability, and energy efficiency.
  • Analyze trend logs and performance data to identify opportunities for optimization.
  • Documentation & Compliance Maintain accurate records of system configurations, service actions, updates, and component replacements.
  • Ensure compliance with local codes, AHJ requirements, safety standards, and Trinity Health operating policies.
  • Update diagrams, sequences of operations, and device inventories as systems evolve.
  • Collaboration & Communication Work closely with facilities engineers, HVAC mechanics, electricians, and vendors to resolve complex building automation issues.
  • Communicate system status and corrective actions clearly to leadership and clinical stakeholders.
  • Provide training to engineering team members on system functions and troubleshooting basics.
