Job Overview: The Building Automation Controls Engineer supports Macy's Inc. Energy Management Systems (EMS/BMS) in both new and existing stores, distribution centers, and offices. The primary responsibility includes EMS software development and management of support systems technologies, with a focus on the primary EMS platforms of Schneider Electric Andover and Schneider Electric EcoStruxure. The Engineer collaborates with the Facilities Call Center, EMS Field Engineers, maintenance personnel, and external contractors to support building systems and enhance the customer shopping experience. This position can be located in other locations.

  • Evaluate, test, and implement upgrades to EMS hardware or software platforms, including modifications to Sequence of Operations.
  • Assess the impact of configuration changes on lighting, mechanical systems, and energy consumption.
  • Monitor and analyze systems continuously to maintain or achieve energy savings.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate EMS standards.
  • Provide support for the Enterprise EMS infrastructure as needed.
  • Collaborate with Macy's IT staff on issues such as EMS database management, application development, and LAN/WAN infrastructure.
  • Coordinate efforts of Macy's internal resources and third-party vendors for EMS implementation, repair, and support.
  • Communicate directly with on-site installers (internal and external) to ensure adherence to standards and functionality.
  • Provide 2nd level Call Center support as required.
  • Manage the process for retro commissioning of new and existing stores.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement new EMS technologies and strategies.
  • Survey facilities and develop improvement strategies.
  • Prepare documentation for project development.
  • Create RFPs as needed.
  • Review equipment standards for HVAC, electrical, and EMS/BMS projects.
  • May be responsible for training, mentoring, and providing direction to colleagues.
  • Effectively communicate ideas and information to peers, management, and customers.
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.
  • Expertise in Energy Management System (EMS) programming and support, with hands-on experience in field installation and implementation.
  • Significant experience with HVAC and electrical systems.
  • Proficiency in one or more of Macy's primary EMS platforms (e.g., Schneider Electric Andover, Schneider Electric EcoStruxure).
  • Solid understanding of BMS protocols (e.g., BACnet, LON, Modbus) and IT, database, and LAN/WAN infrastructure requirements.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders for EMS infrastructure projects and retro commissioning efforts.
  • Skilled at managing vendor relationships and ensuring adherence to standards.
  • Ability to drive energy reduction initiatives and align EMS projects with organizational goals.
  • Strong analytical skills to define problems, collect data, analyze situations, and develop effective solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft reports and present technical information.
  • Expertise in monitoring, prioritizing, and optimizing workflow to ensure timely project completion.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across departments, promoting teamwork and ensuring seamless project execution.
  • Ability to provide training, mentoring, and guidance to colleagues.
  • Strong skills in preparing project development documentation and creating RFPs.
  • Ability to assess the impact of changes to systems, particularly regarding lighting, mechanical systems, and energy consumption.
