About The Position

The Building Aide performs a variety of duties and tasks to assist the office.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Excellent interpersonal and public relations skills
  • Works well with children
  • Positive public relations skills
  • Demonstrated ability to accomplish the major duties listed below
  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions and communicate effectively on the telephone and in person.
  • Sufficient vision or other powers of observation which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions and review and prepare documents and file them in a prescribed order, and organize documents and materials.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity which permits the employee to operate a personal computer and other office equipment.
  • May be required to block or redirect students.
  • Must be able to effectively supervise and support staff when consequences are implemented including supervising physical restraint and seclusion if necessary for safety.
  • Sit for extended periods of time.
  • Walk and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally lift and carry up to 20 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with students, parents, staff, and others in a positive encouraging manner.
  • Assist administrator, student support manager, and office manager in addressing student office referrals (discipline, medical, etc.).
  • Assist with parent and patron concerns.
  • Assist with student attendance records and other record keeping as assigned.
  • Operate a variety of office equipment.
  • Complete clerical duties, including typing, filing, and distributing of correspondence, reports, memorandums, announcements, newsletters, agendas, etc.
  • Cover recess duties and/or classroom coverage, as needed.
  • Assist with development and publication of flyers, newsletters, and correspondence with patrons, parents, and staff.
  • Schedule appointments, meetings, and conferences as appropriate.
  • Record meeting minutes as assigned by administrators.
  • Place and answer telephone calls as needed.
  • Forward calls and to appropriate persons and/or take and deliver accurate messages.
  • Handle and distribute incoming and outgoing mail daily.
  • Know and follow district policy and chain of command.
  • Act ethically and confidentially in all aspects of employment.
  • Perform such school-related duties as assigned by administrators.
