About The Position

The Building Access Technician I at East Texas A&M University (ETAMU) is responsible for installing and repairing mechanical door locks, related services, and projects in university structures. You will assist the Key Control Manager and the Building Access Team with normal operating shop functions including installation, maintenance, and repair of door securing hardware, ADA operated doors, and university card access systems. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2 years' experience in locksmithing, carpentry, electronics, or related field.
  • Ability to: Multi-task and work well alone and as part of a team.
  • Valid Class C Driver's License
  • Able to work from a ladder.
  • Able to work in varying noise and temperature conditions.
  • Able to use a volt/ohm meter, and other tools to diagnose and resolve issues.
  • Knowledge of ADA and Fire codes related to building ingress and egress.

Nice To Haves

  • The well-qualified candidate will have 3+ years hands on experience working with key systems and lock hardware, knowledgeable in master keying systems, and commercial door hardware

Responsibilities

  • Installs, maintains and repairs lock systems and related equipment; installs all types of locks and lock hardware and performs the carpentry or metalworking necessary for such installation.
  • Adjusts, maintains, repairs, and replaces door locks, padlocks, tumbler locks, and various other lock hardware such as panic bars, door checks, latches, catches, fasteners, and door closers.
  • Diagnose and fix issues with automatic doors, including those related to low-energy operation, push-button activation, and other accessibility features.
  • Performs routine inspections and maintenance to ensure doors operate safely and reliably, preventing malfunctions and potential injuries.
  • Wires and installs control modules, card readers, door hardware, and all other components of the system.
  • Maintains the university card access system by troubleshooting wiring problems or lock malfunctions.
  • Provides excellent communication, organization, and customer service skills in every aspect of your job.
  • Available for after-hours “On call” duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.
