The Buffer Prep Technician plays a crucial role in supporting research and development labs by preparing buffers and reagents, maintaining inventory, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols. This position requires attention to detail, organization, and effective communication with team members and end-users.

  • Daily preparation of small- and large-scale buffer batches (500ml - 500L+).
  • Assist operating semi-automated single-use mixer for large scale buffer batches.
  • Prepare analytical solvent reagents for LCMS system, including methanol, acetonitrile, HCL, TFA, and FA mixtures.
  • Prepare and stock antibiotic working stocks.
  • Inventory, stock, and order consumable supplies (plastics and chemicals).
  • Inventory, stock, and order tissue culture media additives.
  • Assist with buffer preparation equipment daily/weekly cleaning and calibrations, as well as daily bench top cleaning of work area.
  • Record metrics related to the services provided to the site.
  • Maintain QC records for chemical and media preparations.
  • Update and maintain the internal Media Request webpage daily for all work orders.
  • Adhere to Media Request page recipes and SOPs per each specific buffer request.
  • Perform other duties as assigned related to the position and scope of work in buffer preparation.
  • Cross-train within Lab Services functions (Chemical Management and glass wash).
  • 1-2 years of experience in a lab environment.
  • BS degree in a science-related field preferred.
  • Buffer preparation, pH titration, reagent weighing experience.
  • Ability to learn and apply new skills after appropriate training.
  • Comfortable handling and dispensing acids, bases, and corrosives.
  • Technical skills and working familiarity with lab procedures and processes.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
