About The Position

This position is located within the NC State University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) Budget Office, which is a division of the CALS Business Operations unit (CBO). The Budget Office is managed by the Director of Budgets and Planning and reports to the Assistant Dean for Business Operations. This position reports directly to one of the CALS Budget Consultants. The budget & planning team has responsibility for fiscal and financial controls and management, including budget and cash management for the entire College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS). This unit provides oversight and fiscal monitoring for all funds (state/federal capacity/contract & grants/trusts/foundation). Additionally, the unit works with Administration, Department Heads, Faculty, University, State, and Federal offices to manage the College's fiscal affairs. The primary purpose of this position is to provide budgetary and accounting support to the assigned departments and units within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. This position is responsible for a variety of financial and business-related duties within the areas of accounting, budgeting, and auditing in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS). This position requires comprehensive knowledge of state, federal, college, University, and UNC-General Administration policy and procedures to ensure compliance is met. Knowledge of all funding sources available - state, federal, F&A, receipts, trusts, contract & grants, gifts, foundations. The position will report to and support the Budget Consultant position, and responsibilities include processing journal entries, financial reporting preparation, revenue, expense, and payroll auditing, ad hoc reporting, and other duties as assigned. Budget management, innovation, and compliance: Utilize innovative budget strategies that optimize resource allocation and drive the College's financial success. Prepare information for budget planning and analysis initiatives for strategic decision-making by College leadership. Play a pivotal role in shaping the financial future of CALS, influencing outcomes across complex funding sources, including state, federal capacity funding, auxiliary, and endowment funds. Manage entry of critical budget transactions. Drive compliance with federal, state, and University regulations, ensuring the College's financial integrity while identifying opportunities for cost control and revenue enhancement. Relationships with college and university units: Foster collaborative relationships with Department Heads, Associate Deans, and Directors, and unit staff to provide accurate and timely information. Work as a collaborative partner with the budget team. Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or Associate's degree in Accounting; or Associate's degree in Business or related discipline with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

  • Ability to adapt to and work in a flexible/hybrid working environment.
  • Ability to set priorities and work independently.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced working knowledge of MS Excel and Word.
  • Five years of higher education experience in finance and/or budgeting.
  • In-depth knowledge of PeopleSoft Financials and university accounting processes.
  • Strong understanding of the complex rules that govern Federal capacity and State appropriated funds.
  • Advanced working knowledge and understanding of general accounting principles.
